Name That Tune 3.8

Two classic tunes for you to choose from last week, Meatloaf – Paradise By The Dashboard Light, a song I sang karaoke with my sister last time I was in England – we brought the house down I can tell you.

This pub in the heart of Wakefield, Yorkshire – all the wanna-be’s doing their soft rock ballads, nobody taking any notice whatsoever… Only an hour before we had been talking about how this tune was the perfect karaoke song. So up we get and woke the place up … brilliant :)

The second song of course was Simply Red – Shine, from days of yore when Mick Hucknell sang better songs than he does now..

WTG to the following players who got one or both of the above named songs correct:
Alan, Dan, Renfield, Andy, Mike, Mike, Elvisaaron, Trish and Todd

The table:

Caught...

28 points: Alan Novich
25 points: Andy, Trish and Todd
22 points: Elvisaaron
18 points: Dan
17 points: Mike (mscho)
16 points: Mike (daddyo)
6 points: Renfield
4 points: Ellie, Lynda, Duncanw
3 points: Debi

Todays clips: The first one was a major hit and has been played day for day in Europe for the last few months, should be instantly recognisable…. but let’s see what you make of the second

I know both of these well. Duffy is an act we at Steve Madden tried to sign, back a year and a half ago at SXSW in Austin…..we ended up with Katy Perry…not so bad…..this is Warwick Avenue, from a smashing album. The second, Stone Cold Fever (I almost said sober) by Humble Pie, one of my all time favorite bands, and you cut it off just at the great harmonica part !!!!!!! By the way, you should clarify some of the answers: Karla DeVito was NOT the singer on Paradise……Ellen Foley was. Ellen had a brief solo career, a record or two produced by none other than Ian Hunter and MIck Ronson….sang with the Clash, among others (this is the kind of stuff you love, Dave (I think) …..she was a NY session singer and could really belt…..then one season on Night Court before being replaced by Markie Post….now she teaches vocal lessons here in New York. She is an old bat, like me !!!!!!!!

yes Alan, as I already said, I do not like Katy Perry, although I have heard that she can really sing. I wonder why she doesn’t then…? I think I would be much more inclined to wear your shores if it was Duffy wearing them in :)

Sorry about the harmonica by the way, I will try and avoid these mistakes in future…

Good guess on the second Andy. It is rumored btw that Spooky Tooth will be playing an open air in Hamburg in September – one festival I won’t miss!

    1. Sounds like Sophie B. Hawkins, but I’ve been wrong before.
    2. Sounds like old Black Sabbath, but probably not, lol.

First clip is Warwick Ave sung by Duffy

Clip # 2 is another British Band with Steve Marriott and a young Peter Frampton by the name of HUMBLE PIE, song is Stone Cold Fever. David thanks for bringing back another classic Brit Group, I for one would like to see more of them.
